On Wednesday, April 4, 2018 the Firecracker Foundation officially joined Meridian Township’s community-wide Sexual Assault Prevention program committee as part of Meridian Township’s and Brianne Randall Gay’s CSC (Criminal Sexual Conduct) Initiatives.

Firecracker Foundation CEO and Executive Director Tashmica Torok stated, “I fully support the efforts of Brianne Randall-Gay and am happy to serve on the committee.”

The Firecracker Foundation honors the bravery of children who have survived sexual trauma by building a community invested in the healing of their whole being. They provide children and teens who have survived sexual trauma with holistic therapeutic services and medical advocacy services to children and families.

The committee also consists of Okemos Public Schools, Meridian Township Police Department, Meridian Township Board, and Brianne Randall-Gay. Haslett Public Schools confirmation is pending. Ms. Randall-Gay is a graduate of Haslett High School and is a survivor of Nassar. Ms. Randall-Gay will travel from Seattle to attend the committee meetings.

Ms. Randall-Gay’s mission is to provide evidence-based, age appropriate education regarding sexual abuse to the community in order to empower victims to speak out and provide adults the tools necessary to recognize signs of abuse and respond appropriately. The township signed a consulting agreement with Brianne Randall-Gay on March 20, 2018 to assist in developing and  implementing a community-wide sexual assault program.

The committee meetings have been scheduled at the Township Municipal Building at 11am on these dates:
Friday, April 27
Friday, June 22
Friday, September 21

Township Manager Frank Walsh can answer any questions about the committee. Protecting the community against sexual predators remains a top priority for the Township.
