The Meridian Township Parks and Recreation Department has begun fundraising efforts for the relocation of the Meridian Township Farmers’ Market. The Marketplace on the Green Project is looking to raise $50,000 by February 8th to help with funding of a new facility.
The new facility will be located on the north side of the Meridian Mall within the existing parking lot and adjacent to the unused green space. It will consist of a large pavilion with a market office, restrooms, play structure, small performance stage, plaza area and year-round ice for ice skating opportunities.
The proposed new facility will act as a social and economic centerpiece in Meridian Township, providing community space for the Farmers’ Market, craft fairs, Township wide events, adult and youth sports, live music and more.
If funding for the Marketplace on the Green Project reaches the $50,000 goal, a matching grant through the Michigan Economic Development Corporation Public Spaces Community Places program will be awarded to the Township.
“This fundraising campaign is our last step in making the Marketplace on the Green Project a reality. By re-imagining the marketplace, Meridian Township is developing a creative solution that will benefit not only residents, but all members within the community,” said LuAnn Maisner, Director of Parks and Recreation. “We are excited about what is in store and look forward to the public involvement to help us reach the finish line.”
The Meridian Township Parks and Recreation Department is asking community members to take part in the investment of the new facility and donate to the Marketplace on the Green Project. Donations and more information on the project can be found at patronicity.com/meridian.
