National Citizen Survey Results Released

Post Date:02/06/2019

According to the National Citizen Survey (NCS) Results, the overall quality of community life and a place to raise children in Meridian Township was rated as “excellent” or “good” by 90% of respondents with 94% reporting they would recommend living in Meridian Township.

The NCS report is about the "livability" of Meridian Township. It measures the desirability of the township as not only where people live, but where they want to live. The report was mailed to 1,600 residents evenly and randomly dispersed across the Township. Of those, 345 (23%) residents completed the survey which captures residents' opinions within the three pillars of a community (Community Characteristics, Governance and Participation) across eight central facets of community (Safety, Mobility, Natural Environment, Built Environment, Economy, Recreation and Wellness, Education and Enrichment and Community Engagement).

The two characteristics receiving the most favorable ratings were K-12 education (94%) and safety (92%). The least positive rated characteristics were a vibrant downtown/commercial area (28%) and street repairs (30%). On average, residents gave generally favorable ratings to a majority of local government services; rating excellent to good customer service (82%).

“This survey is another useful way the Township can collect resident feedback and improve the quality of services we offer to those living in the community,” said Township Assistant Manager Derek Perry. “It is a meaningful tool to use to be consistent with the 2019 Goals and Action Plan”
A majority rated the overall direction being taken by Meridian Township as “good” or “excellent.” In regards to the direction of an increased millage to fix roads and maintain roads, 69% supported an increase. When asked if they would support allowing the Land Preservation Millage to expire, 75% opposed it. When asked about renewing the Land Preservation at a lower rate, 86% supported it.

Since 2003, the Township has surveyed its residents every three years.
