Meridian Township Partners with Michigan Audubon to Host a Purple Martin Colony
Post Date:04/09/2019 4:48 PM
On Thursday, April 18 at 2:00 pm, staff from Michigan Audubon will build new Purple Martin gourds in front of the Meridian Township Service Center, 2100 Gaylord C. Smith Ct., Haslett, MI 48840.
Residents are encouraged to join the event to watch the installation of the gourd rack and get questions about Purple Martins answered by the knowledgeable Audubon staff.
Meridian Township is part of the Mi Bird Friendly Community Program and partners with the Michigan Audubon to engage the local community in urban bird conservation programs designed to connect residents with birds and the environment for the benefit of all.
“This event is informal, but open to anyone who is interested in learning about Purple Martins, and specifically about how they could install their own colony,” says Linnea Rowse, Conservation Program Coordinator for Michigan Audubon.
The education session is free and does not require advanced registration.
