Meridian Cares Emergency Needs Fundraiser

The Meridian Cares Team has several opportunities for the community to share holiday spirit and spread holiday cheer to households in need this season.

Be a Santa to a Senior:  The community is invited to make the holidays brighter for lonely or isolated local seniors by purchasing an item from the “Be a Santa to a Senior” tree. Select a Santa card off the tree and return the item with the card by December 2, 2019.  The “Be a Santa to a Senior” tree is located in the lobby of the Township Municipal Building located at 5151 Marsh Road, Okemos.

Winter Coat Collection: The Meridian Cares Team is collecting winter coats to keep residents warm during the most frigid time of year.   Drop your donations off in the lobby of the Township Municipal Building located at 5151 Marsh Road, Okemos.

Toys for Tots: The Meridian Cares Team is collecting new, unwrapped toys for low-income local children this holiday season.  Drop your donations off in the lobby of the Township Municipal Building located at 5151 Marsh Road, Okemos by December 13, 2019.

Emergency Needs Fund: Through the Meridian Cares Emergency Needs Fund, the Township is able to help seniors, families and children with emergency needs in Meridian Township. The fund helps families stay warm in the winter when facing a shut off notice, helps families keep their homes when facing an eviction notice and helps provide necessary money for emergency transportation services. Financial donations are accepted either online through the Meridian Cares PayPal account or by mailing a check to Meridian Township, c/o Meridian Cares, 5151 Marsh Road, Okemos, MI 48864.

According to the U.S. Census, about 13% or 5,000 people in Meridian Township live below the poverty level and almost 3,000 people live below 50% of the poverty level. The Meridian Cares Emergency Needs Fund helps families and individuals in dire financial need in Meridian Township.
