The Zoning Board of Appeals (ZBA) serves as a quasi-judicial body which hears and decides matters relating to the application of the zoning ordinance such as a variance from an ordinance standard, an appeal of a zoning official's decision or an interpretation of the ordinance. Applicants for a zoning variance need to apply by submitting a completed application found in the document section on this page. More information regarding the eight criteria that need to be met for a variance can be found at the link below as well.

The ZBA consists of five members and two alternates, who are appointed by the Township Board including one member from the Planning Commission and one Township Trustee. Members must be objective, fair and consistent when it comes to adhering to the eight criteria in section 86-221 of the ordinance.

The commission typically meets monthly on the second and fourth Wednesday of the month at 6:30 pm at the Municipal Building at 5151 Marsh Road, Okemos, MI  48864. If no applications are received by the posted deadline, meetings may be cancelled. Please check the calendar for specific days/times of meetings,
