The Friends of Historic Meridian will host a free speaker series at the Village Chapel (5151 Marsh Road, Okemos) on Wednesday, January 28 from 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm.

The presentation details former president Gerald R. Ford's military service with the US Navy between 1941 and 1946. Ford's pre-war activities at Michigan, Yale, and Grand Rapids as an athlete and lawyer were key to his selection as a naval officer and V-5 instructor.

Michael E. Unsworth, retired MSU librarian, will be hosting the presentation. Unsworth has degrees from the Indianapolis and Bloomington campuses of Indiana University and the University of Notre Dame. He has worked at the libraries of Notre Dame, Colorado State University, and MSU. Unsworth is the co-author of the annotated bibliography Future War Novels (1984) and the editor of Military Periodicals (1991). He has also written numerous articles, concentrating on military history.
