Central Park's history dates back to 1966 when the first parcel of land was purchased. In 1978, The Farmers' Market Pavilion was constructed and includes restrooms, electricity and a drinking fountain. More land was acquired in 1986 and 2005 expanding Central Park to be 188 acres. Central Park is where you will find the Meridian Township Municipal Building, the Public Safety Building, Meridian Historical Village, and the Nokomis Cultural Heritage Center. Other amenities in the park include athletic fields, fishing dock, a pond that is regularly stocked, nature trails, picnic areas, a playground, and so much more. Central Park continues to grow to accommodate the needs and interests of the community. Watch for the upcoming additions and changes to this magnificent park:

  • Gateway Footbridge Replacement and New Restroom Facility - These projects were funded by a $150,000 grant from the Land and Water Conservation Fund together with a $150,000 local match from the Park Millage.
  • Central Meridian Regional Trail Connector - This nearly half-mile paved trail and accessible fishing platform was funded through a grant from the Michigan Natural Resources Trust Fund in the amount of $272,500 and a $122,500 Park Millage local match. This trail begins at the Meridian Historical Village and runs west through Central Park connecting to an existing paved trail in Central Park South. This trail will eventually connect to a new trail that will eventually connect MSU to Lake Lansing. These trails will augment the existing pathway system that traverses Meridian Township.
  • Small Dog Park - The Small Dog Park (30 lbs. and under) was opened in Summer 2019 in Nancy Moore Park. Dog parks are open from dawn until dusk. The off-leash dog area will be at the entrance to Nancy Moore Park. Please visit meridian.mi.us for rules and regulations.
  • Large Dog Park - The Large Dog Park (30 lbs. and over) was completed in September 2020 and is now open in Central Park South. Dog park hours is dawn until dusk.
