Music in Nature Debuts at Harris Nature Center

Post Date:07/16/2019 3:21 PM

The Harris Nature Center (3998 Van Atta Road, Okemos) has launched a new series this summer called Music in Nature. Three different trios will play live music in the Gathering Circle while visitors have the choice to listen concert-style, walk the trails, picnic or freely move around the park.

Event schedule:

  • -Saturday, July 20th from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm: Monte Pride, Gifts or Creatures

  • -Saturday, August 10th from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm: Arlene McDaniel Trio

  • -Saturday, September 14th from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm: Strings and Wood

The first event in the series will feature Monte Pride and the duo, Gifts or Creatures. Monte Pride is a Michigan-born and raised singer-songwriter who brings stories of love, loss and healing to soul stirring songs on his guitar. Gifts or Creatures is the husband-wife duo, Brandon and Bethany Foote. The couple blends Midwestern folklore, old-world history and cinematic soundscapes, bringing Americana imagery to life.

“Imagine walking through the woods and hearing sweet music playing or picnicking to an upbeat tune,” said Nature Center Coordinator Kit Rich. “This is the experience we hope to provide for people with our Music in Nature Series.”

These events are sponsored by the Harris Nature Center Foundation and are free to the public. For more information about this and other programs offered at the Harris Nature Center, contact 517.349.3866 or hnc@meridian.mi.us.
