Post Date:08/13/2019 4:59 PM

Okemos Boardwalk News ItemThe Okemos Road Boardwalk is anticipated to be substantially complete by September 1st. Final trail connection and restoration work will need to be finished following that date. A ribbon cutting and official opening is expected to take place in mid-September.

Meridian Township received $975,000 in funding from the Ingham County Parks and Trail Millage for a newly constructed boardwalk on Okemos Road between Central Park Drive and the Meridian Service Center. The remaining $325,000 of the 1.3 million-dollar project, will be funded by the Township’s local voter approved pathway millage.

The Okemos Road Boardwalk will complete the final remaining gap in the pathway system along the east side of Okemos Road. It will connect the pathway from Jolly Road to Lake Lansing Road. The boardwalk will be constructed of wooden timbers and provide an off-road elevated walkway through the Mud Lake Drain wetland area south of Gaylord C. Smith Court.
