Effective immediately and until further notice, all Rural Residential Burn Permits have been suspended in Meridian Township.
“Making sure we have the proper resources needed during the current health crisis is essential. By suspending Rural Residential Permits, we are taking steps to minimize the risk of larger scale, manpower intensive incidents that could draw our personnel away from where they are desperately needed in our community,” stated Tavis Millerov, Meridian Township Fire Inspector.
In response to Governor Gretchen Whitmer’s “Stay Home, Stay Safe” Executive Order to reduce the spread of COVID-19, burn permits have been suspended across the state. According to officials at the Michigan Department of Natural Resources (DNR), less open burning means less potential for escaped fires, and that means emergency personnel can deal with more critical needs.
