The 2020 Meridian Township Road Construction Plan includes 10.24 miles of rehabilitation work as well as 16.7 miles of preventative maintenance crack sealing work. Construction will be conducted in phases beginning in June.

The Meridian Township Department of Public Works (DPW) and its consultants will manage and oversee the entire process including bidding, inspection and construction of the local roadwork as well as coordinating any other planned utility projects. The asphalt contractor is Michigan Paving & Materials and the concrete contractor is Lopez Concrete Construction. The concrete work will take place first, with the asphalt paving to follow. Notices were sent out to all the impacted properties for the road work, with additional individual notices being handed out to residences where concrete work will occur.

The Meridian Township local roads to be crushed and resurfaced in 2020 are listed below. The resurfacing work includes three separate phases; crushing the existing asphalt, grading and preparing the new road base and placing the new asphalt.

The total 2020 road budget is $4,122,500, with $3.7 million coming from the 10-year local road bond approved by voters in August 2019. All $3.7 million in 2020 will be used for the rehabilitation work that will focus on the poorest condition roads in the system. The remaining funding will come from the Ingham County Road Department (ICRD) and the Township General Fund to provide for the preventative maintenance work needed to preserve existing “good” pavement.
