    Development Project

    1619 Haslett Road

The revitalization of the Haslett Marathon at the corner of Marsh Road and Haslett Road in Haslett is underway. This renovated building will feature new gas pumps and an upgraded 6,622 square foot facility, which will include options for takeout food services on site. The auto service portion of the project will also see improvements for a full renovation.

Project Updates
August 2022

This development includes a modern and accessible site plan that addresses walkability. The newly constructed building provides ease of access to those approaching the site to walk immediately in to the building. The previous configuration required patrons to walk across a parking lot, placing pedestrians and vehicles in the same space. The updated Haslett Marathon will be home to Saroki's Chicken and Pizza, along with additional retail expansion options. The site has an approved Brownfield plan as petroleum service stations are eligible based on contamination related to the gas storage tanks underground. Grand Re-opening is planned for late August.

January 2022

Project is still underway and will receive certificate of occupancy after all internal inspections are complete. Projected opening Fall 2022.

July 2021

The exterior of the building envelope has been completed at Haslett Marathon. This building will house a new repair shop, take out food options with gas pumps in the rear.

April 2021

Currently, residents will not be able to get gas from the station, however the automotive repair shop will remain open. Once the new gas pumps and service station are completed, the repair shop will be closed while it is under construction. Construction for this location is anticipated to last about 6 months. Meridian Township development teams worked closely with the owner to achieve the financial goals necessary to get the project started.  Stay tuned for updates and follow progress of this $1 million dollar investment being made in Meridian Township.

Background Information

The site plan was received for internal review on 2/12/2018. The Community Planning & Development Department approved the site plan, and commenced with the Brownfield Plan for reimbursement of the development related to contamination cleanup of the site.

As presented in May 28, 2020 to the Township Board, the Board approved the use of $304,483 of Brownfield Redevelopment Funding after the project is completed based on the taxable value increase of the property projected at $1M. The Township Board gave final approval at the July 7, 2020 meeting.
