Conservation & Green Initiatives

Meridian Township places a high value on conservation and green initiatives, prioritizing environmental protection and sustainability through actions such as reducing waste and emissions, conserving resources, and restoring ecosystems.

In 2017, Meridian Township became one of Michigan’s first municipalities to adopt a Climate Sustainability Plan. This plan outlines objectives and actionable steps to reduce carbon emissions and safeguard the environment. Key goals include:

Achieving significant energy and water cost savings in Township facilities and the vehicle fleet
Obtaining 100% of electricity used for Township operations from renewable energy sources by 2035
Reducing the volume of materials sent to landfills by 10% by 2035

Join the Meridian Green Team at the Meridian Mall (1982 W. Grand River Avenue, Okemos), near Chili's and Olive Garden, on Saturday, September 26 from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm for the Fall Electronics Recycling Day!

In addition to recycling your unwanted electronics, Meridian Cares will also accept new and gently used coats, boots, and snow pants for their annual coat drive.
