Meridian Township Invites Students to Apply for Youth Commission
Meridian Township is looking to fill open positions on the Youth Commission for the 2026-2027 school year.
The Youth Commission was established by the Township Board in 2025 to engage local youth in municipal government and provide students with opportunities to participate in the decision-making process. The Commission was created in response to requests from students who expressed an interest in becoming more involved in local government.
“We are fortunate to have outstanding youth leaders throughout our community who are already making a meaningful impact in their schools and service organizations, and we want to bring that same energy and dedication to the Township as well,” said Meridian Township Supervisor Scott Hendrickson. “Over the past year, our Youth Commission established a strong foundation for several exciting projects and initiatives. We look forward to seeing those efforts come to life over the next year.”
Members of the Youth Commission will work with Township staff and the Township Board to learn about local governance, public policy, and the role of local government through the perspectives of younger residents. Commissioners may also provide advisory feedback to Township staff, boards, and commissions on issues that impact the community's long-term success.
Youth Commission Applicant Requirements:
- Currently between the ages of 14 and 19.
- Currently a Meridian Township resident and/or attending a school within the Township.
- Available to attend at least one meeting each month.
Applications will be reviewed in order of submission by Amber Clark, the Neighborhood and Economic Development Director for Meridian Township. Qualified candidates will be presented to the Township Board for potential appointment. The Township Board will then appoint the selected candidates for a one-year term.
Interested applicants are encouraged to apply online at meridian.mi.us/YouthCommission. The deadline to apply is Monday, August 3, 2026 at 5:00 pm.
