In 2017, Meridian Township became one of Michigan’s first municipalities to adopt a Climate Sustainability Plan. This plan outlines objectives and actionable steps to reduce carbon emissions and safeguard the environment. Key goals include:
- Achieving significant energy and water cost savings in Township facilities and the vehicle fleet
- Obtaining 100% of electricity used for Township operations from renewable energy sources by 2035
- Reducing the volume of materials sent to landfills by 10% by 2035
