As a Township, Meridian Township's policies differ from those of a city, as Township powers are defined by state law. By comparison, cities are vested with 'home rule' powers, in which they can govern themselves and define their services and policies.

Because of this, some services that a city may ordinarily provide are instead provided for Meridian Township at the county level, such as road maintenance, court services, and more.

Meridian Township does not offer curbside garbage, recycling, or yard waste collection. Residents and business owners in Meridian Township can use either Granger Waste Services or Waste Management for their garbage service. Anyone looking to set up service can do so by contacting Granger or Waste Management at their websites below:

For anyone not interested in curbside recycling, the Meridian Recycling Center is available for dropping off recyclable materials. The center is operated by Reclaimed by Design and is located at 5976 E. Lake Drive in Haslett.
  • The Center accepts cardboard, boxboard, paper, glass, plastic, most electronics, metal, and clean expanded polystyrene foam (Styrofoam). There is a small fee for electronics and yard waste. The Center also accepts yard debris and trash for a fee.
  • Visit their website at www.reclaimedbydesign.com or call 517.703.4498 for hours, updates, rates, cardboard status, and more.
