Downtown Development Authority

In 2005, the Meridian Township Board adopted Ordinance 2005-12 to establish the Meridian Township Downtown Development Authority (DDA), covering the area commonly known as “Downtown Okemos” or the “Okemos Village Area.” The DDA was formed to prevent property value deterioration, increase property tax valuations where possible, eliminate the causes of decline, and promote economic growth within and around the Downtown Development Authority District, in accordance with the powers, duties, and limitations set by Public Act 197 of 1975.

The DDA’s mission is to beautify and revitalize Downtown Okemos, making it a premier destination to shop, live, and do business. The Authority is committed to enhancing quality of life by fostering a friendly, walkable community that embraces the natural beauty of the river and parks.

The DDA is composed of up to twelve members, the majority of whom must reside, own property, or have a business interest within the DDA district. Members serve four-year terms and have backgrounds in business, real estate, law, finance, or development.
