Economic Development Corporation

The Economic Development Corporation (EDC), established in 1981, operates independently from the Township government, though its actions are subject to Township Board review. As a locally chartered public corporation, the EDC’s mission is to promote economic development within the Township.

The State Legislature enabled the creation of such corporations through the EDC Act of 1974 (PA 338). The EDC collaborates with local business owners, the Meridian Area Business Association (MABA), and regional partners such as the Lansing Economic Area Partnership (LEAP), Lansing Regional Chamber, and Tri-County Regional Planning Commission to enhance the Township’s economic vitality.

The EDC’s mission is to foster an entrepreneurial culture, lead the revitalization of business districts, and build sustainable public-private partnerships. The EDC is composed of at least nine members, each serving six-year terms, with backgrounds in business, real estate, law, finance, or development.
